Torrential Downpours Exacerbate Conditions for Uprooted Palestinians in Gaza, Officials Alert

Intense storms over the last seven days have worsened the extremely difficult living conditions of the vast number of evacuated Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, as reported by humanitarian groups.

"Horrendous" Conditions Brings Severe Threats

A representative described the previous night's conditions as "horrendous", with downpours so severe that as much as 15cm (6in) of water was seen on the streets.

"The recent weather was really terrible for the families. The storms were so strong... And the gales were so forceful," said the spokesperson.

Officials express extreme concern that minors sheltering in makeshift shelters in soaked clothing will contract hypothermia and other ailments.

Deaths and Widespread Destruction

Health authorities have stated that one baby has succumbed from exposure and at least 11 other people have been killed in structural failures triggered by the severe weather.

Other reports suggest a higher fatality count. Officials reported that numerous structures had totally fallen and dozens had sustained partial collapse.

Assistance Distribution Deemed Insufficient

Agencies have escalated shipments of tarpaulins, blankets and clothes following the halt in hostilities started, but they have said there is continues to be not enough aid getting in.

"We are operating tirelessly to bring in that relief and to hand it out, but the size of the needs is so enormous that we continue to see many thousands of families and children who are really suffering nightly," stated one representative.
