The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as sparing festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The craze became so widespread that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: joyful, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
