Line of Duty Announced for 7th Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the production team.
Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that attracted more than 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only came this week.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
Series seven begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer celebrated for busts of criminal networks, faces allegations of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, this investigation might serve as a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the shadows, plot details hinted.
In a statement, the creator commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of AC-12 over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new season."
Mercurio continued: "Corruption in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
The Scottish actor called appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've worked with I now call dear friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "It goes without saying I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar noted: "While anticipating the unit return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."
"Pleased with the announcement and looking forward to those mercurial plot developments."
Series Legacy
The drama premiered in 2012 and became one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, featuring notable actors such as Lennie James.
The BBC has not yet announced when the new season will hit screens.
The conclusion of season six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no intentions for further series.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a new season is now in development.
