Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to coach Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Liverpool in 2024, remarked that returning someday is a possibility. Klopp, post a game-changing nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, has since taken on positions overseeing worldwide football with the Red Bull group and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and Klopp’s Candid Remarks
Liverpool won the Premier League in the previous campaign, though countless followers who adore the manager would welcome the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he shared with his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead a different club on English soil. Therefore in case it's my former club...yeah. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, so I might decide later on, who knows. Do I have to make the decision today? If so, I wouldn't return. Luckily, no such pressure exists. I can just see what lies ahead.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Pressed on the specific conditions must arise to draw him back to management, he confessed he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “I'm not entirely sure, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; No desire to be under bad weather for lengthy sessions; No need for media briefings four times, three times a week or constant media duties a week.
“No nostalgia for the changing area in that context, however, dining out with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. We won a lot of games meaning regularly a very good mood in the building. I still have Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
He spoke highly of the current boss, crediting him due to the changes which secured the championship last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] a top-class attacker such as Wirtz, critics will regret with negative comments. He’s an incredible talent. The French striker, incredible player. It’s a really good balanced team. No need for concern about Liverpool, they will be fine.”
Emotional Tribute for Diogo Jota
He shared movingly regarding the passing of Diogo Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota was killed in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute such an individual? This isn't just regarding his footballing ability, it's his character. It's hard to picture the team environment absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A profound tragedy for the entire squad as well. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Handling this emotionally is challenging. Unbearable.”
