The exciting 11-inning matchup where the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total 51M watchers in the United States, Canada, and Japanese territories. MLB reported this is the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

The Saturday memorable game drew over 27 million viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the top-rated Fall Classic game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent improvement over the previous finale featuring the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was 7th, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game recorded 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 edition Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – where Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match series drew over 15.7 million viewers on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average was over 16 million. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded 8.09M viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance after 2017.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by forty-four media partners in 16 different tongues.
