Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his initial trophy for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the competition championship match.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a difficult year, managing just a single victory at the Grand Slams and experiencing a meltdown at the American major.

The player's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serve in specific - resulted in him falling of the elite rankings and eventually parting ways with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now training with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court since that period of the previous year.

The win also means he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my children together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," said tennis professional Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, comprising in that event in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring emotional displays on court had led commentators to doubt if his ability to play at the elite level was over.

But the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete positively, supported by an enhanced serve.

He recovered from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

Both players traded breaks in the middle set before the challenger, striving for his initial professional title, gained dominance to push for a decider.

The opponent defended 4 early break points in a close third set before the champion broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner secured the title with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
